A History of Shareina’s Black History.

Black History month is honestly one of my favorite holidays for the simple fact that it has given me an excuse to make something cool with my colleagues the last few years. Every year has been completely different from the previous and every year I Iearn a ton of new skills.

Let’s jump in! And pay attention, there will be a quiz at the end of class.

We Still Matter Team: Jordan Dinwiddie, Ben Howard, CJ Duncan, LaShun Tines.
2019. Talk Shop.
Talk Shop was a panel style show where we all came together to share our experiences of working in the advertising industry as Black folks.

2020. Black &.
“Black &” celebrated all the things we could be in addition to being Black. This one is my favorite and every time I watch the video I still get all the warm fuzzies. We shot this a few weeks before the office closed due to covid and sometimes on sad days in the months following, I would just watch this one and smile at all our smiles.

2021. Preach.
We took a totally different approach in 2021 and made an Instagram filter! Preach was a fun rapid fire questions Black culture game on Instagram.

2022. Wealthy Black Swag.
Switched it up again and made swag this year! Our theme was Wealthy Black, and we created a beautiful line of hoodies, durags and bonnets, all emblazoned with the logo. Our swag was immortalized in a photography show by the wonderfully talented Briah Michel.

2023. We Still Matter.
2023 marks the 10 year anniversary since the first utterance of the words “Black Lives Matter”. I really hate serious things, I don’t wanna bum myself out. But making this work was worth the pain. I wanted to celebrate this movement that has changed the world. This beautiful film that captures what Black Lives Matter meant to us. It’s a reflection on the last ten years and I was honored that people got vulnerable and shared their hurt with me. (We also still made swag because why not).

Okay, if you’re still here. I promised a quiz. Is egg an ingredient in Macaroni and Cheese?
